About Us
The Chair of German at Trinity College, founded 1776, is thought to be the oldest in the world. The Department today combines the strengths of this tradition with a modern, dynamic, interdisciplinary approach to Germanic Studies. We teach and research in German language, literature, culture and society from the medieval period to the present day, German business studies, German law, Germanic linguistics and Dutch. The staff of the Department currently consists of a Professor, one Associate Professors, one Senior Lecturer and three Lecturers, a German language instructor, Lektors for German, German Law and Dutch, and a number of part-time staff. There are also currently two postdoctoral research fellows.
There are about 300 students in the Department,
- taking undergraduate courses in: TSM Germanic Studies (German plus one other subject);European Studies; Computer Science, Linguistics and German; Business Studies and German; Law and German.
- taking postgraduate courses: MPhil in German literature and language pedagogy.
- or studying for research degrees of MLitt and PhD
