Dublin Shakespeare Fest Engages Community
2 June 2011
The Trinity College Dublin Shakespeare Festival is back and looks set to be one of the largest theatre events of the Irish calendar, with approximately 400 performers both professional and amateur featuring in over 50 outdoor performances of Shakespeare’s work. We are also delighted to be welcoming back the GB Theatre Company for their eagerly anticipated performances of Romeo and Juliet and Twelfth Night which are headlining the festival in a specially constructed auditorium in the Front Square of Trinity College. With eleven days dedicated to the greatest playwright in the history of the English language, there’s guaranteed to be something for everyone to enjoy!
This year’s festival includes a thorough programme of Civic Engagement. The focus is on increasing accessibility to Shakespearean Performance. The Festival has commissioned two productions from Trinity Students which will tour primary schools in the local Dublin area, giving children an opportunity to experience Shakespeare often for the first time. This will be complemented by the Family Fun Day which will take place on Saturday 4th June in Trinity College. This will feature a series of family oriented events with a Shakespearean theme. Events include: Shakespearean Murder Mystery and a picnic featuring a Shakespearean puppet show.
