Department of History of Art and Architecture Research seminar
In 1939 the Spanish Civil War ended and the dictatorship of Francisco Franco (1939-1975) began. During this period, which lasted 39 years, the moral, social and economic recomposition in which architecture played a fundamental role. The government urged the recovery of architectural styles that sought to forget the country's modernity, something that worked until 1953, the year in which Spain's international opening changed this imposition forever. This lecture will deal with this architectural imposition and how architects dealt with this peculiar situation.
