In the heart of Dublin city centre, behind the ancient front arches of Trinity College, lies a 47-acre campus filled with leafy squares, cobblestone walkways and historic buildings. Uncover all that Ireland’s oldest University has to offer with our guided and self-guided walking tours.
An innovative Christmas tree popped up in Front Square to the surprise and delight of staff, students and visitors.
The tree was created by the team currently working on the Rubrics refurbishment project as part of the Clancy Construction Recycled Christmas Tree Competition using waste material from the Rubrics building site which cannot be reused.
The materials consisted of an old doorframe, original strips of floorboard (unusable due to decay), surplus electrical cables, ironmongery from the windows and doors secured with nails salvaged from the building, and a roof slate shaped into a star.
Sustainability is at the heart of the Rubrics refurbishment project and includes the installation of a geothermal energy solution under New Square. Geothermal heat pumps are amongst the most efficient heating technologies available because they use stored energy from the ground to meet energy demands of nearby buildings. Our new energy system will provide heating and hot water requirements for the Rubrics.
