The Book of Kells and Old Library exhibition fosters an understanding of Ireland’s history and heritage. Plan a self-directed visit to the exhibition or combine your visit with a guided tour or workshop.


Schools

A visit to the Book of Kells and Old Library Exhibition will complement your classroom work, bringing Ireland’s history and heritage to life. We welcome primary and secondary schools to experience Ireland’s greatest cultural treasure.

Guided tours last approximately 30-40 minutes and are tailored to meet the needs of your school group and must be booked in advance.  For self-guided visits, advance online booking is necessary.

Combine a guided tour with one of our facilitated workshops to make the experience even more fun and engaging for your class. For more information, please enquire when booking.

Primary school groups: free admission
Secondary school groups: Oct- Mar: €3 per student; Apr – Sept: €8 per student

Each year, Trinity invites people of all ages, from school children to adults, to submit new artistic interpretations of the Book of Kells. Create a painting, drawing, poem or short story based on the images of the Book of Kells and enter to be in with a chance of winning a prize plus a VIP visit to the Book of Kells and Old Library exhibition. Adults

New patrons are always welcome to join the Friends of the Library, an exclusive society for those with a special affinity to the library’s historic collections and Irish culture. Our ever-popular talk series will return to the Old Library in 2021. During these 20-minute talks, our Preservation team share an insight into how we care for the library’s collection of over 250,000 ancient texts.
