Fellow in Focus: Prof Dariusz Komorowski in conversation with Prof Jürgen Barkhoff

Join us for a lunchtime 'in conversation' event featuring Visiting Research Fellow Dr Dariusz Komorowski (University of Wroclaw) in conversation with Prof Jürgen Barkhoff (School of Languages, Literatures and Cultural Studies, TCD).
Dariusz Komorowski is a Professor of German Philology at the University of Wroclaw in Poland. Since 2005 he has been the Head of the Research Centre for German-Swiss Literature and since 2017 the co-originator and editor-in-chief of the online magazine “CH-Studien. Zeitschrift zu Literatur und Kultur aus der Schweiz” which he leads in cooperation with Anna Fattori (Rome) and Jan Jambor (Prešov). From 2012 to 2018 he was the Head of the postgraduate studies in “Cultural Management in the Cooperation of Regions of the European Union" at the University of Wroclaw. Dariusz Komorowski has conducted seminars and given lectures at the universities in Göttingen, Zurich and Maribor and organised several international seminars for master students in cooperation with those universities.
His research focuses on the Swiss culture, relation between local, cultural and national identity, and history of ideas, notably republicanism and the common good in contemporary German literature. He carried out the research for the main questions on identity and community models in literature at his home university and within several scholar- and fellowships, among others Swiss Government Excellence Scholarship (Zürich), DAAD (Berlin), Bosch-Foundation (Bochum), Foundation Landis & Gyr (Zug) and SCIEX-NMS-Fellowship (Lausanne). Dariusz Komorowski is an author and co-author of books and articles related to Swiss culture and literature. “Der Intellektuelle im Narrenhabitus. Carl Albert Looslis Publizistik in der nationalen Identitätsdebatte der Schweiz um 1900“ and „Die Wiederkehr der res publica. Zu literarischer Repräsentation einer politischen Idee im globalen Zeitalter“ belong to his latest publications.
Jürgen Barkhoff is Professor of German (1776) and Head of Discipline in Germanic Studies. Before he was Vice-Provost/Chief Academic Officer and Deputy President of Trinity College Dublin. He teaches German literature and German and European Cultural History from 1750 to the present. His main research areas are literature and medicine, science and psychology around 1800, questions of identity in the German speaking world and contemporary Swiss literature.
