Food, Translation and the Decolonisation of Ecology

A seminar by Prof Michael Cronin (TCD) as part of the School of Languages, Literatures and Cultural Studies Research Seminar Series.
In this seminar, Prof Cronin will look at food in translation less from the traditional standpoint as indicators of cultural alterity and more as signs of the broader implication of translation in ecological upheaval and colonial depredation and resistance. He will argue that questions of food and translation cannot be divorced from histories of colonial food economies and issues relating to environmental sustainability and climate justice. Furthermore, it will be argued that the notion of food translation has a distinct bearing on debates around human ontology, indigenous relationality, and the modern food system.
