Barriers to the Political Participation of People with Disabilities

A seminar led by Vivian Rath (TCD) organised by the Women in Research in Ireland network.
Women in Research Ireland are delighted to present Vivian Rath, PhD Researcher and Disability Activist. Vivian will be discussing 'Barriers to the political participation of people with disabilities'. This presentation will provide insights from the recent TCD Equality Fund supported seminar, 'Disability; Political Representation and Activism', organised by Vivian.
Vivian is currently undertaking a PhD researching the social involvement experiences of students with disabilities in higher education. Previous to that he completed an MSc in Business Management where he researched the employment of graduates with disabilities. He worked in UCD in the Office of the Vice President for Students’ for five years and also served as a Director of the Board of AHEAD. He has a wealth of experience in providing supports for people with disabilities accessing education and employment opportunities. He has been active in campaigning for the removal of barriers to the participation of people with disabilities in public and political life.Vivian has recently been appointed by the Minister for Disability to the National Disability Stakeholders Group.
In his spare time, he likes to train sheepdogs, attend toastmasters and is a keen fly fisher.
