PROBE European Researchers' Night

Trinity Research Theme on Manuscript Book and Print Cultures will share aspects of current research on the early manuscript collections in the Library of Trinity College Dublin. The focus of the presentation/workshop will be on Latin Medieval manuscripts, for which a fully accessible online catalogue is about to be launched. Everyone knows and loves the Book of Kells; but many other items in the Library are remarkable objects in terms of their material, visual and textual characteristics. Why do these old books matter? What do they tell us about the historical and cultural context of their production and circulation? What do they tell us about the individuals who wrote them by hand at a time when hand-writing is gradually disappearing?
