Behind the Scenes: Beckett in the City
Friday, 3 August 2018, 12 – 1pm
This year's "Behind the Scenes" event is a conversation with the artist-scholar Sarah Jane Scaife, director of Company SJ, about her acclaimed multi-year project Beckett in the City, which includes outdoor stagings of Samuel Beckett's plays Act Without Words II with Rough for Theatre I (2009-present), the short prose piece Fizzles (2014), and the series The Women Speak (2015-present, including Not I, Footfalls, Rockaby, and Come and Go). Exploring the motivations and process underlying these works, this conversation will reveal how Company SJ fuses research and performance to create an active artistic engagement between the two, and how Scaife's vision of Beckett brings him to life for twenty-first century Irish and international audiences.
More about these projects can be found at www.company-sj.com.
The conversation will be moderated by Nicholas Johnson.
