Utopia Dystopia: From Chaos to Conformity: Anniversary commemorations of the October Revolution in Visual Arts and Film
Wednesday, 14 February 2018, 6:30 – 7:30pm
This lecture will trace the impact of the October Revolution in art and cinema through the anniversary commemorations of the Revolution in the first decade of Bolshevik government. It will explore the relationship between art, politics and propaganda in the work of avant-garde artists and film-makers, with a particular focus on Sergei Eisenstein's 1927 film October.
Dr Justin Doherty’s research interests are chiefly focused on twentieth-century Russian literature and culture. His work has centered on Russian Modernism, particularly on the Acmeist school of poets; and on the literary culture of the Russian emigration.
