Communities & the Digital World: A Philosophical Approach

A public lecture by Pierre Mathias organised by the Departments of Philosophy & French in collaboration with the French Embassy in Ireland.
Pierre Mathias, a graduate of the École normale supérieure, is one of the foremost French philosophers of his generation. He has undertaken pioneering research on the Internet in relation to its philosophical ramifications.
He has published extensively on the subject, notably three books: La Cité Internet (1997), Des libertés numériques (2008), and Qu’est-ce que l’internet? (2009). He is also a member of two research networks which focus on this subject, Réseaux, Savoirs et Territoires (ENS-Ulm & ENSSIB) et Vox Internet (MSH, Paris).
