Lecture series 2014-15
Disability & Liteature
This innovative series of seminars explores the various ways in which disability has been represented in literature from the perspectives of academics, writers, artists and activists in local and international contexts.
It is organized by the School of English, Trinity College Dublin, in conjunction with the MSc in Disability Studies (School of Social Work and Social Policy), and is co-hosted by the Trinity Long Room Hub. It features contributions from the School of English as well as from the Centre for Deaf Studies and the National Institute for Intellectual Disability in TCD. It also welcomes speakers from outside TCD, from key organizations, including the Disability Federation of Ireland and Arts & Disability Ireland, and from the field of the contemporary arts. The series contributes to Trinity's major research focus on 'Identities in Transformation'
Seminars are organised thematically, or with reference to the work of a particular author, and subjects to be covered include images of disability, impairment and deafness in works by writers with or without disabilities.
The series will be held over seven consecutive weeks, beginning on Monday 13th January 2014 at 7pm. Seminars will be held in two accessible locations in TCD: the Trinity Long Room Hub and the National Institute for Intellectual Disability. Seminars will be signed by an ISL interpreter, and all are very welcome to attend. For further information, contact: Dr Paul Delaney, School of English at delanep@tcd.ie or Dr Edurne Garcia Iriarte, MSc Disability Studies at iriartee@tcd.ie.
This lecture series is generously supported by the Trinity Equality Fund.
