Emily Monty
Emily Monty is an art historian specializing in the history of print and the history of the book in the early modern period. She received her PhD from Brown University in 2021. Her research and teaching focus on the artistic culture of the Spanish Empire and the role of print in the exchange of images and ideas throughout the Atlantic world. Emily's research has been supported by the Society for the History of Authorship, Reading, Publishing and the Rare Book School, the Fulbright Program, the Kress Foundation, and the Bibliotheca Hertziana.
Emily joins us at Trinity Long Room Hub in Michaelmas 2022 as the Fagel Collection Visiting Research Fellow. Her project “Composite Chorography: Collecting the Americas in the Fagel Collection in the Library of Trinity College Dublin” is part of “Unlocking the Fagel Collection,” sponsored by Dutch Culture/the Foreign Ministry of the Kingdom of the Netherlands. Analysing maps, single-sheet prints, and illustrated books describing North and South America, Emily aims to understand how the Fagel family built up a picture of the Americas through collecting various types of printed media.
