Lisa Doyle is a second-year PhD candidate in the Department of Classics. She holds a BA in Classical Civilisations and Modern Irish from Trinity College Dublin and an MSc in Classics from the University of Edinburgh. As part of the 'Margins of Learning' project supervised by Dr. Martine Cuypers, her doctoral thesis aims to provide a critical evaluation of the scholia on the 'Argonautica', a 3rd-century BCE epic poem by Apollonius of Rhodes. Scholarly notes are often examined individually and are not considered within the context of their corpus but Lisa's research looks at the scholarly interests, critical methods and characteristics of the Argonautica-scholia. Such an analysis will contextualise this understudied corpus within the exegetical and intellectual tradition and enhance modern academic engagement with corpora of this type.
