Elliott Mills

Elliott Mills is a PhD candidate at Trinity College Dublin, carrying out his research with an Irish Research Council Postgraduate Scholarship. His thesis, supervised by Dr Tom Walker and Dr Sam Slote, seeks to advance a more complex understanding of how different levels and forms of mediation function both as internal preoccupations and external forces shaping the work of Flann O’Brien. Bound to this choice of topic is the suggestion that, although always a key feature of his writing, O’Brien’s examinations of the communicative habits and technologies through which meaning is built within and without literary forms is now more salient than ever.

Elliott’s research interests as a result are situated in a space connecting 20th century Irish social and cultural history, Irish literature, modernism(s), media studies and literary theory.
