Bio
Professor Anthony Caleshu is Professor of Poetry in the Department of English and Creative Writing at Plymouth University. He is currently working on 'friendship', including co-authoring (with Dr. Philip Coleman of TCD) a critical book on friendship as a magnanimous force towards creative practice (writers explored include Melville and Hawthorne, Gertrude Stein and members of her salon, John Ashbery and Frank O' Hara, and contemporary collaborative practitioners).
A second project is a new book of poems which seeks new imaginative territory via friendship philosophers such as Aristotle and Epicurus, de Montaigne, Emerson, and Blanchot.
Professor Caleshu gave a public lecture in the Trinity Long Room Hub on 22 October 2014 at 6.15pm entitled ‘Poetry and Friendship: Creative Practice and Critical Reading’
