The Beyond 2022: Ireland's Virtual Record Treasury Research Project is an all-island and international collaborative project funded by the Department of Culture, Heritage and the Gaeltacht under the Project Ireland 2040 framework. The project seeks to re-imagine and re-create through virtual reality the Public Record Office of Ireland building, which was destroyed in the opening engagement of the Civil War, and its archival collections. Beyond 2022 is led by Professor Peter Crooks and Dr Ciaran Wallace, from Trinity’s School of Histories and Humanities.
The Trinity Long Room Hub is the public humanities partner for Beyond 2022.
Partnership initiatives to date include the Out of the Ashes multiannual lecture series 2018-21. This series is examining how societies deal with cultural trauma through reconstruction and commemoration, and how the international community should respond to cultural loss.
