As Ireland commemorates 100 years since the start of the Civil War in 2022, we look beyond one of the most difficult periods in the country’s history to explore the many global events that also mark important milestones, anniversaries, and birthdays this year. A century since the founding of the BBC; 75 years since Indian independence; 50 years since the premiere of The Godfather; 25 years since the handover of Hong Kong...in this new blog series from the Trinity Long Room Hub, we ask experts from Trinity’s arts and humanities which events, for them, make 2022 ‘A year to remember’.
The series opens with Sam Slote’s observations on Joycean birthdays and the publication of Ulysses, 100 years ago, in February, 1922.
