Welcome

Interest Groups

Join interest groups and collaborate with other ambitious innovators to develop solutions related to your shared interests. These groups meet regularly to discuss new interest specific challenges, form teams around proposed solutions and launch new startups or social enterprises. The groups also act as knowledge banks for information presented by members like you and expert guests. You can join/leave groups whenever you like so dive in and get involved!

Diversity and Inclusion

This group collaborates to innovate in diversity and inclusion. Diversity incorporates all the elements that make individuals unique from one another, and while there are infinite differences in humans, most of us subconsciously define diversity by a few social categories, such as gender, race, age and so forth.

Sustainability and Circular Economy

This group collaborates to innovate in sustainability and circular economy. Sustainability is the capacity to endure in a relatively ongoing way across various domains of life. The circular economy is an economic model that is restorative and regenerative by design. The circular economy stems from the realisation that Earth is a finite system constrained by planetary boundaries. In circularity, the key objective is to design consumption and production systems to create and retain value.

Jobs and Employment

This group collaborates to innovate in jobs and employment. Following our time at university most of us will be looking for a job of some kind. Therefore it’s important to consider what makes us employable. Sometimes our pathway to a job starts with an internship. Other times it’s a great application and CV or just a conversation with the right person at the right time.

Law

This group collaborates to innovate in Law. Law can be defined as the system of rules which a particular country or community recognizes as regulating the actions of its members and which it may enforce by the imposition of penalties. Beyond this definition are the people, processes and infrastructure that empower a functioning legal system.

Creative Arts

This group collaborates to innovate in creative arts. The arts are a very wide range of human practices of creative expression, storytelling, and cultural participation. They encompass multiple diverse and plural modes of thinking, doing and being, in an extremely broad range of media. Here we discuss and develop solutions to challenges in the arts and creative areas.

Student Experience

This group collaborates to innovate in student experience. The simplest definition of student experience is “how students perceive the academic institution they attend”. Student experience typically comprises three key elements: Academic and intellectual development, Social/emotional activities and networking, Welfare and support services. Here we discuss and develop solutions to challenges in all areas of the student experience.

Sport

This group collaborates to innovate in sport. Technology and innovation have changed the way people both participate in and consume sports. From real-time analytics tools that maximize player efficiency, to a whole new level of streaming services, sports are always on the cutting edge.

Health and Wellbeing

The World Health Organisation (WHO) defines health as “a state of complete physical, mental and social wellbeing and not merely the absence of disease or infirmity”. Wellbeing sits outside the medical model of health as its presence or absence is not a diagnosis. It is widely accepted that subjective wellbeing varies greatly between individuals, as do the factors that contribute to it. There are a wide range of areas for innovation that sit under the umbrella of “Health and Wellbeing”.

Artificial Intelligence

Artificial intelligence is the theory and development of computer systems able to perform tasks normally requiring human intelligence, such as visual perception, speech recognition, decision-making, and translation between languages.

Food

Innovation in the food industry combines technological innovation with social and cultural innovation. It occurs throughout the entire food system, including production, harvesting, primary and secondary processing, manufacturing, and distribution.
