Biography
Peter Mühlau is Assistant Professor at the Department of Sociology. His research and teaching interest are in the fields of the sociology of work and employment, the sociology of migration, social stratification and quantitative research methods. His current work focuses on the economic and socio-cultural integration of immigrants, gender inequality in work and employment, socio-economic and socio-cultural change in Ireland and survey methodology. He is leader of the Irish team in the European collaborative project 'Causes and Consequences of Early Socio-Cultural Integration Processes among New Immigrants in Europe' (SCIP).

- The project examines how different national contexts shape the early stages of integration of new immigrants in their host countries. It sets up a panel survey of about 7,000 migrants who recently arrived in Ireland, Germany, the Netherlands or Great Britain. It will study the interaction between individual attributes of the immigrants and contextual conditions in the destination countries. The integration trajectories of recent immigrants from Turkey, Pakistan and Morocco will be compared with the experience of the first years of Polish migrants in Germany, The Netherlands, Great Britain and the Republic of Ireland.
