Robert Ussher
1629 – 1634

Robert Ussher had been a Fellow of Trinity since 1611, and was the first graduate to become Provost on 13 January 1630.1 He seems to have been unduly hard on the students, banning the comedy which they had been accustomed to perform at Christmas, and he also lost the confidence of the Fellows. The English authorities decided that a change was needed, and his resignation was secured in 1634 by the offer of ecclesiastical preferment as Archdeacon of Meath.
