Certificate in Holocaust Education
The Herzog Centre in the Department of Near and Middle Eastern Studies offer a Certificate in Holocaust Education which provides in-depth tuition on the historical significance and contemporary resonance of the Holocaust. This programme provides participants with information, tools and skills to address this subject in their area of work, and to develop pedagogic expertise to complement their knowledge. The programme is divided into four modules, all of which must be completed by participants who wish to attain the certificate.
This certificate is a Special Purpose Award at NFQ Level 7 carrying 20 ECTS and is ideally suited for teachers and those involved in community and outreach education.

Module OneTeaching the Holocaust
This is an intensive, three-day summer course for teachers that addresses the complex subject of the Holocaust as well as examining educational approaches. The module also features lectures, interactive seminars, workshops, materials and resources presented by renowned international Holocaust educators.

A five day programme that includes a three day study visit to Auschwitz-Birkenau. This programme is supported by two seminar days in Dublin.

Module ThreeIrish Seminar at Yad Vashem International School, Jerusalem, Israel
An eight day programme at the Yad Vashem International School for Holocaust Studies. This course is tailored for Irish educators providing opportunity for in-depth examination of many aspects of the Holocaust. The module is supported by a separate seminar day in Dublin.

This can take various forms reflecting the interests and professional development of the student: a long essay of 5,000 words OR a short film OR curriculum design.
