Minister Simon Harris visits Disability Hub and Health Centre

Posted on: 17 August 2022

Minister for Further and Higher Education, Research, Innovation and Science Simon Harris visited Trinity College Dublin today to view the university’s soon-to-open Disability Hub and Health Centre.

Minister Harris was welcomed on campus by Provost Linda Doyle. Disability services director Declan Treanor led the Minister through the Disability Hub, designed as a safe and calming space for students with various disabilities.

Fully accessible, this hub will have counselling rooms, meeting spaces and a kitchen. It will be a space for students to  socialise, work and study, in a fully sustainable, paper-free environment.

Dr David McGrath, director of College Health Service, walked Minister Harris through the new Health Centre, which will have nursing, psychiatric and GP facilities. One of its priorities will be to implement the Government’s plan to provide free contraception to women between the ages of 18-25. The centre expects to be able to provide thousands of young women each year with free implant contraception.

Both facilities are due to open in the new term.
