Trinity student wins worldwide F&D essay competition

A Trinity Master’s in Development Practice student, Lyndsay Walsh, has won the inaugural IMF Finance & Development (F&D) essay contest open to graduate students worldwide.

Lyndsay’s submission beat stiff competition with entries from the USA, UK, France, Spain, Ireland, Norway, Hungary, Colombia, Chile, Brazil, China, Japan, Singapore, Philippines, Pakistan, India, Russia, Tajikistan, Morocco, Nigeria, South Africa and beyond.

Her essay, written in response to the question ‘how can inequality be tackled in the 21 century?’ is entitled ‘Start with Climate Change’. It can be read here.  It will also appear in the December print issue of F&D, which will focus on climate change. Lyndsay is a Trinity graduate in natural sciences, specializing in zoology.

The runner up prize was awarded to Tarik Gooptu, a graduate student in the University of Oxford. His essay focused on how cities can improve upward economic mobility.
