Trinity Geographer to Advise Government on Climate Change Policy

Posted on: 19 June 2015

Professor of Geography at Trinity College Dublin, Anna Davies, will provide expert support to the government as part of a newly formed Climate Change Council charged with helping Ireland evolve towards a low-carbon economy.

The Council will function to independently assess the Government’s progress in cutting carbon emissions, and will also advise on policy developments.

Professor Davies is one of 11 experts on the panel, which also includes Trinity’s Professor Emeritus of European Agricultural Policy, Alan Matthews. Economist John Fitzgerald will act as Chair to the Council.

Professor Davies said: “I am honoured to serve on the Advisory Council and assist in the urgent collective goal of mitigating and adapting to climate change.”

“As a scholar of environmental governance I have been working at the interface of science and policy in Ireland for 15 years and I relish the opportunity to formally contribute to the policy making process. My job will be to provide the best independent advice I can to the Minister, Government, and wider society.”
