Trinity Creative Challenge

Posted on: 02 October 2017

Trinity College Dublin continues its commitment to playing a leading role in helping to catalyse the creative and cultural arts in Dublin City and fostering the development of the creative and cultural industries sector.

Launched in 2015 by the Provost of Trinity College Dublin, Dr Patrick Prendergast, the Trinity Creative Challenge aims to foster the development of ambitious and innovative interdisciplinary projects and works, ideally involving collaboration with Trinity College Dublin.

This October, Trinity College Dublin is pleased to announce the call for applications for the third round of the Trinity Creative Challenge for 2017- 2018. This year the Trinity Creative Challenge Award is being presented as a twofold award:

  • In the first category, two proposals will each receive an award of up to €15,000 to develop their new project which will be presented within an exhibition or performance context in Trinity in 2018.
  • In the second category, one proposal will be selected from previous awardees for an award of up to €10,000 to further develop their previous Creative Challenge project’s work.

Last year’s round of the Trinity Creative Challenge saw works from five awardees: Clare Lymer, Dead Centre, Genomic Gastronomy, Joe Caslin and Adrien Tien and Richard Duckworth- joining the 2016 awardees: Enda Bates, Pan Pan Theatre, Declan Clarke + Temple Bar Gallery & Studios, Kate Strain and Fiona Hallinan and Grace Weir.

The Trinity Creative Challenge award is open to projects and ideas with a focus on interdisciplinary creative arts practices across a wide range of forms including performance, visual art, music, film, design, new media, animation, gaming and creative technologies. We are open to diverse approaches, new ideas and external collaborations. Projects linking creative arts, science and technology are especially welcome as are those that are likely to catalyse new initiatives and ventures.

Clare Lymer, one of last year’s Trinity Creative Challenge winners (Continuance), commented: “Trinity Creative is a true catalyst in fostering and developing creative partnerships. Their support and trust in me as an artist together with their encouragement and facilitation allowed my work to evolve and grow. The award enabled me to create with scientists who inspired the project, and collaborate with extraordinary artists who took the work to a level I could not have achieved on my own. The Trinity Creative award has certainly opened my practice to new audiences in Ireland and beyond. I would emphatically encourage others to submit a proposal to Trinity Creative. The opportunity has had a hugely positive impact on my practice, future work and collaborations."

Deadline for completed entries is November 8th at 12pm. For further information on the Trinity Creative Challenge, the application and selection process, please see www.tcd.ie/trinity-creative
