Trinity Creative Challenge 2017

Posted on: 03 July 2016

Trinity College Dublin launched its creative arts awards scheme this week which aims to foster the development of innovative  projects.

Sponsored by Trinity Provost, Dr Patrick Prendergast, the Trinity Creative Challenge funding award seeks to catalyse the creative and cultural arts in Dublin city and support the development of the creative and cultural industries sector. Under the scheme up to four proposals will receive an award of up to €10,000 to develop an interdisciplinary creative arts project which will then be presented within an exhibition or performance context in 2017.

This is the second round of the Trinity Creative Challenge for 2016-2017.  It was first launched in 2015 by the Provost of Trinity College Dublin, Dr Patrick Prendergast, the Trinity Creative Challenge aims to foster the development of ambitious and innovative interdisciplinary projects and works, ideally involving collaboration with Trinity College Dublin.

The first round of the Trinity Creative Challenge saw works from five awardees: Enda Bates, Pan Pan Theatre, Declan Clarke + Temple Bar Gallery & Studios, Kate Strain and Fiona Hallinan and Grace Weir.  It was the first time the University sponsored a funding award to foster creative interdisciplinary projects and works.

The Trinity Creative Challenge award is open to projects and ideas with a focus on interdisciplinary creative arts practices across a wide range of forms including performance, visual art, music, film, design, new media, animation, gaming and creative technologies. We are open to diverse approaches, new ideas and external collaborations. Projects linking creative arts, science and technology are especially welcome as are those that are likely to catalyse new initiatives and ventures.

Dr Enda Bates, one of last year’s Trinity Creative Challenge winners (Trinity 360), commented: "The support of the Trinity Creative Challenge for this project has been instrumental in developing our capacity to both produce such content, and to explore the many artistic and scientific research questions which arise from this work. As well as generating a number of ongoing musical compositions and performances, the award has also facilitated the development of our own 360 recording rig, and has allowed us to overcome the many, significant technological hurdles associated with this type of 360 content."

Deadline for completed entries is August 03, 2016. For further information on the Trinity Creative Challenge, the application and selection process, please see www.tcd.ie/trinity-creative
