Trinity celebrates Chinese New Year

To celebrate the Chinese New Year, Trinity College Dublin’s front façade was lit up red to welcome in the Year of the Rooster. HE Dr Yue Xiaoyong, Chinese Ambassador to Ireland, Fei Huang, Chinese Embassy, Brendan Carr, Lord Mayor of Dublin, and Niall Gibbons, CEO of Tourism Ireland joined Professor Juliette Hussey, Trinity’s Vice-President for Global Relations at the lighting.

The Trinity Centre for Asian Studies is hosting a public lecture on Monday 30 January comprising three short talks by Trinity academics, each tackling an aspect of China or Chinese related to the theme of the rooster.

Dr Adrian Tien will speak on ‘What the “rooster” means to Chinese: the linguistic and cultural evidence’, Dr Isabella Jackson will speak on ‘Years of the Rooster through the Twentieth Century’, while Dr Heidi Wang-Kaeding will address ‘Years of the Rooster and the Environment’. The lecture takes places in the Trinity Long Room Hub at 6.30pm.

This event is part of the Dublin Chinese New Year Festival.
