Trinity Business School’s Education Building Wins Construction Award

Trinity Business School’s Education Building has just won an Irish Construction Excellence Award.
The new €80 million 11,400 square metre Trinity Business School building, includes an innovation and entrepreneurial hub, a 600-seat auditorium, restaurant spaces for up to 200 people, smart classrooms with the latest digital technology, and a rooftop conference room.
The main contractor, JJ Rhatigan installed 12 ton beams within the auditorium and achieved Nearly Zero Energy Building (NZEB) performance through a combination of passive design and low energy building to provide an enhanced educational environment.
Professor Andrew Burke, Dean of Trinity Business School, says:
“The building is a worthy winner. It is an inspirational design that has been well built to a very high specification and is truly fit for purpose.
“We made a lot of asks in the design phase; including cutting edge education capability, eco-friendly features, conference/networking facilities, an inspiring spiral staircase and an overall sense of integration/community within the building regardless of what floor a person is on. It truly embodies the character of Trinity Business School.
“The building also provides an historic first for Trinity, as there’s a direct entrance to the building from the city, as opposed to the tradition, where all school entrances only face into the internal campus. We wanted to engage with and make an impact on Dublin’s businesses and society, so this direct entrance was key to that ambition.
“The construction of the Education Building was only made possible thanks to the generosity and belief of both alumni and businesses who provided philanthropic support.”
Trinity Business School is among the fastest growing business schools in Europe with a growth rate of 150 per cent over the past three years. The school has also achieved the highly coveted EQUIS accreditation which places it in the top 1 per cent of business schools worldwide.
