Trinity Begins Global Recruitment Campaign for 40 New Academic Posts

Posted on: 16 October 2015

Trinity College Dublin will commence an international recruitment campaign next month [November] to recruit 40 new academic posts to support the delivery of the College’s new Strategic Plan 2014-19. These new Ussher Assistant Professors are being funded entirely by non-exchequer sources  and €16 million has been allocated for their recruitment. The newly appointed professors will take up their positions in September 2016. It is the second time that Trinity has created a distinct set of professorships with the Ussher name to foster early career academics. The latest wave of professorships reflects the success of the first programme.

Chair of the recruitment process, Vice-Provost & Chief Academic Officer, Professor Linda Hogan said:

“The recruitment of these new posts across the university will build academic capacity to develop new educational programmes. We have identified the posts most crucial to executing our mission, and attracting talented people from around the world who will foster global engagement in education and research.”

“This is part of our strategy to recruit excellent academics in areas where Trinity has strengths. There will be opportunities across our fields of expertise, which span from Science, to Engineering and from Medicine to the Arts and Humanities. Our objective is to attract new talents from around the world to further Trinity College Dublin’s position of excellence.”

Funding is being provided for up to five years for the assistant professorships appointed on a tenure-track, to be mainstreamed after a five-year period subject to performance.

The professorships are named after Archbishop James Ussher, who is often referred to as Trinity's first scholar and who was pioneering and meticulous in his research.  They are intended to honour his rigour as a scholar.

The advertising campaign will commence in November and positions will be appointed in the Spring for commencement in September 2016.

The job specifications will be available on the Trinity College Dublin vacancies website  in November as part of the international recruitment campaign. They will relate to the following wide range of areas:
