Trinity appoints first Associate Vice-Provost for Equality, Diversity and Inclusion

Posted on: 05 November 2019

Trinity has appointed Professor Clodagh Brook as the university’s first Associate Vice-Provost for Equality, Diversity and Inclusion.

The role was created in response to the Review of Gender Equality in Irish Higher Education Institutions carried out by the Higher Education Authority in 2016. Responsibility for this area had rested with the Vice-Provost in the past but the growing importance of this area has now led to the creation of this new dedicated senior officership.

The new role will provide visible and sustained advocacy for equality, diversity and inclusion across the university and support schools and administrative units in developing their own measures to benefit students and staff.

Professor Brook will consult and work together with colleagues across the university and especially with individuals with expertise and experience in the equality, diversity and inclusion area.

The Associate Vice-Provost will be supported by a restructured and strengthened Equality Office. She will attend the university’s executive officers group meetings at her discretion and whenever there is an item for discussion relevant to her brief.

Professor Brook is currently Head of the Discipline of Italian in Trinity. She was educated at Oxford University and at University College Dublin. She taught at The University of Birmingham before taking up her position at Trinity in 2017.
