His Excellency Governor General of Australia, Sir Peter Cosgrove, during his visit to Trinity College Dublin this week (September 24th ), announced the launch of a new partnership between The Ireland Funds Australia and Trinity Business School. The partnership will explore innovative ways to collaborate on education focused on building connections between Australia and Ireland.

The first initiative of the partnership is a jointly funded scholarship scheme to the value of €200,000 to support Australian students wishing to enrol on the Trinity Master in Business Administration over the next five years. Trinity Business School has an international focus attracting MBA candidates from all over the world, often with over fifteen nationalities represented in any given year.

The Ireland Funds Australia is one of 12 international chapters of The Ireland Funds – an organisation that harnesses the power of a global philanthropic network of friends of Ireland to promote and support peace, culture, education and community development across the island of Ireland and around the world. The new partnership demonstrates a shared commitment to facilitate closer ties between the two countries in business and culturally.

HE Governor General, Sir Peter Cosgrove said: “It is particularly fitting that this scholarship focuses on the MBA programme given the business links between our two countries. It is not only a valuable thing it is a powerful thing, the notion of these scholarships. I cannot think of a better investment in our future than supporting our bright young passionate Aussies with an opportunity to live, study and undertake work experience in countries overseas, not least in Trinity College.”

Treasurer, The Ireland Funds Australia, Yvonne Le Bas said“As we celebrate our 30th anniversary, we are excited that this cornerstone partnership will provide an amazing educational opportunity for Australian executives over the next 5 years to further develop their business and entrepreneurial skills. We are working to support future leaders with global connections who share our passion for progress through philanthropy.”

Dean of the Trinity Business School, Professor Andrew Burke concluded“The scholarship will help build on the already extensive collaboration between Ireland and Australia by enabling business executives and entrepreneurs from Australia to receive an MBA education from Trinity Business School. The genesis of this scholarship is very much grounded in a shared vision between The Ireland Funds Australia and Trinity College, Dublin in developing skilled business leaders with a moral compass who will make a positive impact on business and society. We already have an impressive international MBA student body and so we are very grateful to the Ireland Funds Australia for enabling more business leaders from Australia to enrich this great learning environment even further.  We are delighted that the Trinity MBA Alumni network in Australia will be joined by graduates of the scholarship scheme over the next five years.”
