Research Fellow, Physiotherapy

Biography

Dr Linda O'Neill is a Postdoctoral Researcher with the Trinity Exercise Oncology Research Group. She is a registered physiotherapist and member of the Irish Society of Chartered Physiotherapists (ISCP). She completed her PhD in 2018 which investigated the efficacy of multidisciplinary rehabilitation in oesophago-gastric cancer survivorship. She also holds a Bachelor of Science (BSc.) in Physiotherapy (RCSI), a Masters (MSc.) in Respiratory Physiotherapy (TCD), and a Post-graduate Certificate in Statistics (TCD).

She has a keen research interest in exercise oncology, in particular exercise in cancer survivorship. Her work has been widely published and she has presented at conferences both nationally and internationally. She currently works as a Project Manager on the HRB/MRCG funded Preoperative Exercise to Improve Fitness in Patients Undergoing Complex Surgery for Cancer of the Lung or Oesophagus (PRE-HIIT) trial and the HRB funded Rehabilitation Strategies following Oesophago-gastric and Hepatopancreaticobiliary Cancer (ReStORe II) trial. Recently, she has become very involved in trial methodology research, and currently leads an embedded SWAT in the ReStORe II trial. She is a member of the HRB-TMRN, member of the NIHR-TMRP Trial Conduct Working Group, and is currently co-lead of the TMRP Trial Conduct Working Group-Retention Topic Group

Professionally she has held a number of clinical and educational roles. Clinically she has gained experience in a variety of areas including care of the elderly, rheumatology, cardiorespiratory, and oncology. In recent years she has contributed to undergraduate and post graduate teaching at Trinity College Dublin and Singapore Institute of Technology. She has also previously worked as a Special Lecturer/ Clinical Tutor on the Professional Masters in Physiotherapy Programme at University College Dublin. She is an active member of the ISCP, and is currently the secretary to the ISCP Chartered Physiotherapists in Oncology and Palliative Care Clinical Interest Group.
