Our research group investigate the genomics and functional characteristics of diseases with an inflammatory or immune component. We have been involved in a significant number of large genome wide studies, including coeliac disease, psoriasis and psoriatic arthritis, and esophageal diseases. These studies have led to a major increase in the understanding of the genetics of these diseases and have identified candidate genes and molecular pathways likely underlying them. We are interested in how the identified genetic variation influences functional characteristics of the host immune response promoting the disease state. We also have a strong interest in investigating the host immune response in sepsis with a view to developing diagnostic and therapeutic applications.
