Autism Awareness: Screening and Complexities Workshop

The workshop aims to support professionals in their decision making and communication skills around screening and onward referral for autism spectrum disorders and associated emotional, behavioural and health difficulties.  The purpose of this workshop is to

  • Educate general healthcare professionals on the signs and symptoms of ASD across the age range and in hard to diagnose groups;
  • Gain understanding of the perspectives of patients and families and how to communicate with families about the need for autism assessment;
  • Clarify the roles of the MDT members in autism diagnosis and treatment;
  • Provide examples of complex clinical presentations and approaches to diagnosis and treatment.

The workshop is aimed at health and education professionals who work with people with autism spectrum disorders.  There will be multi-disciplinary talks and group-based discussions to facilitate shared clinical experience.
