James Rooney

Dr. James Rooney graduated from Dublin City University with a first class honours degree in Applied Physics. He later qualified with an honours degree in Medicine from the Royal College of Surgeons in Ireland, and subsequently a Masters in Epidemiology from the London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine. He is currently undertaking a PhD in clinical medicine at the Academic Unit of Neurology in Trinity College Dublin. He has been awarded a Health Research Board research training Fellowship to investigate environmental risk factors for ALS.

Current Research

Dr. Rooney’s research encompasses three main areas: the spatial epidemiology of ALS in Ireland; the analysis of clinical, genetic and environmental factors in the survival of ALS patients; and finally he is part of the analysis team for the Euro-MOTOR project. The Euro-MOTOR project is a large international case-control study that aims to identify environmental risk factors for ALS using a systems biology approach.
