Mapping the Pathways to Universal Healthcare in Ireland
First Seminar
22 September 2015
The Hub, Trinity College Dublin
There is increased political and public discourse about universal healthcare (UHC); but what does it mean in an Irish context? This seminar will outline the WHO concept of UHC, how it can translate into a high-income and Irish context, and present some early indicators for measuring progress towards UHC in Ireland.
New international and national findings on Financial Protection will also be presented as well as early results of a systematic review on the organisational implications of introducing UHC to a middle/high income country. As part of the policy strand of this research project, a recent analysis of the intent of universalism in Irish health policy versus what has happened in effect will be presented alongside reflections on findings from some international lessons on introducing and sustaining UHC in health systems.
