Dr Anne-Marie Baird wins Young Investigator Award

Dr. Anne-Marie Baird was recently presented with the Young Investigator Award at the Australian Lung Cancer Conference in Brisbane, Australia. Anne-Marie presented on RON receptor tyrosine kinase as a potential translational therapeutic target in malignant pleural mesothelioma. Her presentation was largely based on work undertaken in the Institute of Molecular Medicine with Dr. Steven Gray as PI. This work was funded by the HRB. The data generated in this project has demonstrated that targeting RON using a small molecule inhibitor, results in reduced proliferation and migration, and increased cellular death in vitro. Furthermore, in a xenograft, this drug was able to reduce tumour growth in vivo. Anne-Marie is continuing her work on RON in Queensland University of Technology.

Anne-Marie is currently a Visiting Research Fellow at TCD and a Research Fellow in the Genome Stability Laboratory, Institute of Health and Biomedical Innovation, QUT.
