Students Vs. Professors Annual Soccer Match "El Classico"

The annual soccer match between students and professors took place on Friday 22nd April (Results Day).  After an exciting and closely contested contest the students emerged victorious.  Well done to all involved.

Trinity College Dublin and St James’s Hospital hosted a 1916 Commemoration Weekend from Friday 6th to Sunday 8th May on the St James’s Hospital campus.

Easter Monday Synchronised Wreath-laying Ceremonies in Dublin

Two wreaths were laid at the Trinity Centre, St James's Hospital, at precisely 1.15pm, 28th March 2015, the time when the first shots of the Rising were fired.


 
 

New Exhibition Space in the John Stearne Library

There is a new exhibition space in the Stearne library, organised in conjunction with Lena Doherty, the Faculty Administrator for the Dean of Health Sciences. It showcases posters by researchers describing their current research. The School is having a "Research Day" in September for which staff will make posters and these will subsequently be displayed in rotation in the exhibition space. Information Leaflet Launch at the OvaCare Patient Information Day

The Coagulation Research Group at the Department of Obstetrics and Gynaecology, led by Dr. Lucy Norris, have produced a patient information leaflet explaining the risk of thrombosis in gynaecological cancer patients. The leaflet was launched at the OvaCare Patient Information Day held in Cork.

An innovative study to investigate the potential benefits of ketamine for relapse prevention in depression is continuing at St Patrick’s University Hospital with researchers from the Department of Psychiatry.

TB and Smoking: TB Immunology Group Discover Mechanisms for Susceptibility

The TCD St. James’s TB immunology group has recently published in Cell on the mechanisms that drive the colliding epidemics of tuberculosis and smoking. The research team, led by Dr. Mary O’Sullivan and Dr. Seónadh O’Leary, discovered how cigarette smoking prevents immune cells from moving towards TB bacteria which prevents the lungs defence system dealing with infection.

RIP Dr. Ian Jesse Temperley

Members of the College Community were saddened to learn of the death on 20th February 2016 of Professor Ian Jesse Temperley, M.A., M.LITT., M.D., F.R.C.P.I., F.R.C.PATH., F.T.C.D. (1970). Professor Temperley retired from the Faculty of Health Sciences in 1995.


 
 

Memorial Service for Dr. Peter Bronte Gatenby

A memorial Service was recently held in College Chapel for Dr. Peter Bronte Gatenby, M.B. (1946), M.D. (1949),F.R.C.P.I., F.R.C.P. Lond., Hon. F.R.C.P. Ed., Hon. F.A.C.P., Hon. F.T.C.D., Trinity’s first full-time Professor of Clinical Medicine, who passed away in August 2015. The service was attended by the family, friends and a good number of alumni, former students of Dr. Gatenby.
