Mature Students Orientation 2019

Monday 26 August

ALL STUDENTS

Mature students will receive a targeted Orientation aimed at introducing students to key College services. This includes an introduction to the Mature Students Office, the Senior Tutor's Office, the College Library, Student Learning and Development, the Mature Students Society, the Community Mentoring programme and the Student-2-Student programme.

Students will meet the mature student Ambassadors and get a tour of the key campus locations. Lunch will be provided and after the campus tours there will be pints at the Pavillion Bar (on us!). The Orientation is both practical and social and a great opportunity to meet other students and get familiar with the campus, in advance of Freshers Week.

Tues 27 August

Engineering, Maths and Science courses

Students will get an introduction to the relevant Library, as well as seminars with Student Learning & Development. These will focus on study skills and academic writing, with guidance as to how students can access the many learning supports throughout the year. The mature student orientation will end at lunchtime on Tuesday for these students.

Arts, Humanities and Social Sciences courses

Students will get an introduction to the relevant Library, as well as seminars with Student Learning & Development. These will focus on study skills and academic writing, with guidance as to how students can access the many learning supports throughout the year. The mature student orientation will end at lunchtime on Tuesday for these students.

Wed 28 August

Nursing and Midwifery courses ONLY

Students will get an introduction to the relevant Library, and a seminar with Student Learning & Development. This will focus on study skills with guidance as to how students can access the many learning supports throughout the year.

Nursing and Midwifery students will meet with one of the Course Co-ordinators from the School of Nursing. This will include a Q & A session for queries regarding timetables and placement schedules.The mature student orientation will end at lunchtime on Wednesday for these students.

PRE-ORIENTATION MATHS REFRESHER CLASSES

The Mature Students Office and the School of Maths have arranged for maths refresher classes to be offered to students who may want to brush up on their maths skills. These classes are provided FREE each day from Mon 19 - Fri 23 August. They will take place in the Salmon Theatre, Hamilton Building.

Classes are divided by subject area. Maths for Arts, Humanities and Social Sciences subjects, and Maths for STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Maths) classes. Registration is essential.

Register for Maths for Arts, Humanities and Social Sciences (basic): Mon - Fri, 10am - 12pm

Register for Maths for STEM subjects (advanced): Mon - Fri, 2pm - 4pm
