Pratchett Project Events

Fan of Terry Pratchett? Love the Discworld? Looking for the L-Space?

This September, we might have just the things for you!

On Culture Night, Friday 20th September, celebrate Pratchett’s life, work, and his connections with Trinity in an interactive event at the Trinity Long Room Hub. Researchers from diverse backgrounds, including children’s literature, translation studies, computer science, and brain health, will illustrate how they are approaching Pratchett’s work and legacy afresh, and how he has influenced them. This is a drop-in event.

The following day, Saturday 21st September, members of the public are invited to a Hackathon with the aim of compiling the ultimate knowledgebase on the publication history of Pratchett’s works. This will be accompanied by interviews with Pratchett’s literary agent, Colin Smythe and with Pratchett’s personal assistant, Rob Wilkins. It will also take place at the Trinity Long Room Hub; registration is required.

Finally, Thursday 26th September is the European Day of Languages. In recognition of Pratchett’s global, multi-lingual success, four of Pratchett’s translators will explore the fun challenge of translating Pratchett’s idiosyncratic humour into other languages, and other cultures. Pratchett Translated is a free event in Trinity’s Exam Hall; prior registration is advised.

Who is behind these events?

In 2018, a multi-disciplinary team of researchers in Trinity, in collaboration with the Library, called to life the Pratchett Project, which has gained significant traction during 2019. Pivoting on the Library’s comprehensive collection of works by British cult author and former Trinity Associate Professor of English, Terry Pratchett (1948-2015), this Project is building both innovative digital resources and an international network of researchers.
