Alphabet in Miniature

<a href="" title="work from home icons">Work from home icons created by KP Arts - Flaticon</a>

You may remember a time, not so very long ago, when everybody was suddenly obliged to work at home. Without access to books or readers or, for the first week or two, the cataloguing system, there was a limit to what work Research Collections staff could usefully do. One possibility was writing blog posts.

On 25th March 2020 I posted a bibliographical alphabet with images sourced from previous blogs, the Research Collections Twitter (as it still was) account, and my own collection. Towards the end of 2021, EPB received an email from Stephen Byrne, who makes miniature books as a hobby, requesting permission to use the text of this post. We said yes, on condition that one copy would be for the author and one for Special Collections. I then forgot all about it until the middle of October this year when a small padded envelope arrived containing two copies of a beautiful little book – numbers 1 and 2 of a limited edition of 20. The library copy is at OLS B-18-259. The other 18 copies will be swapped by Mr Byrne for other miniature books for his own collection.
