Around this time last year we displayed the third volume of John Gould’s ‘The mammals of Australia‘ in the BLU display case. This month sees us return to Gould with a display of his ‘A monograph of the trochilidæ, or family of humming-birds‘ London, 1861 (Shelfmark: Fag. HH.3.1-5).
The opening chosen is from vol. III and shows Pterophanes Temmincki, one of the largest humming-birds in the world and the biggest within its range.
