Listening to bullets was not evacuating casualties, so I wandered with Harington back to the supports. There, I found some wounded and retrieved the four stretchers which, hours before, I had despatched under charge of my havildar. I made use of these to evacuate the wounded. While thus engaged, I recieved a message that Harington was again hit. I found him, this time with a wound through the thigh, lame, but quite unperturbed. He refused to return to hospital, had his pony brought up and continued to direct the retirement of the battalion from horseback, where he was necessarily exposed to a more severe fire. I admired his coolness and hope he will be suitably rewarded.
The day was now advancing; it
