Went to the Doctor again with my knees

12 August 1916 Saturday

Up 12.30am. Artillery fire all night – British and French with strong Bulgar reply. Rifle fire on left. Counter attack made on the French inflicted casualties. General Gordon back from leave, recalled poor devil almost as soon as he set foot in England.
Very quiet day indeed and very hot. Went to the Doctor again with my knees which are very sore. Colonel Gage Munster Fusiliers in to dinner. 10th Division is at KAMORRA. The 14th Kings is being held back till the Colonel comes back from leave and then we go up again.
Took first turn of duty tonight – to 12.30. Bright and quiet night.
Post in. Letters from Wilfie, Alice and Frank Moran – all doing well.
