Went down about midnight.

7 August [1916] Monday
August Bank Holiday!

Up at 12.30 for duty. My sergeant – Kenyon – and I take turns at halving the night. One from stand down to midnight or 1am, and the other from then to Stand to. K… out on patrol with usual complement. Right patrol now in the hands of Lancashire Fusiliers. In fact the whole right sector is now under Lt Col F [?]Tacety L 7’s. Quiet night until Tew, the new 1st Lt turned up with an outgoing patrol at 3am, having lost half his men. Dashed fool he is.
I hear Stapleton took my report on ‘B’ Coy the other night as a personal matter!
Ground in front alive with British patrols. Took first duty stand down to 13.15. Patrols out. Moon half full. Went down about midnight. French guns pretty busy all first part of night drew some reply near us.
Shrapnel helmets issued. Kits ordered to be reduced to 15lbs.
Found what appears to be a Bulgar camp near the lake beyond Doiran – bearing of 333 deg magnetic from here.
