As we were fatigued with the labour of dragging this casualty over the ground, I took two men from those holding the mound and sent them back with the stretcher to a shallow nullah further in the rear. I followed later. In this nullah I found our O.C., Harington, with a bullet wound in the scalp, not serious and quite insufficient to perturb him. I remained here for a little while; the retirement was in progress; the destruction of As Sahilan was complete. The Arabs, as is the custom with all savage enemies, were choosing our retirement to push their attack home. This was their tactical opportunity and from the experience gained through many a battle with the Turk, they knew well how to use it. Already they had manoeuvred well round our left flank
