Friday
My dearest, No letter today otherwise rather a good day very hot again It is a pity to waste it. I did a good deal of walking and perspiring. We have some nice lilac in the garden the whole place smells very sweetly. Of course it was the chess men that went west not the men who played chess.
Two of our officers have left us two most lately joined who had never been at the war before. One to become a gas officer the other an ”orderly officer” it is queer how some people hit jobs at once I suppose it is merely that they want jobs badly enough to go about getting them. They are also older men which makes it reasonable.
Anyway this weather is good for you & Noll on Killiney beach and if they do not stop our food rations through setting up a rebellion it will be all right. It would be awful if there was another outbreak but I do not think there will be Also you would probably feel it more deeply than I should from a sentiment point of view.
I am going to my bed now rather tired. The fact of having no regular job makes me busy all the time. I have again asked please may I go to OPs in the line etc but am told no.
good bye my dearest
Pat
