My dearest, Back again last night from my trip which has been an unqualified success; did you get my p/c it was the only news I sent off to you yesterday. It was perfectly lovely down at the sea I wish you could have been there to meet me. The little harbour was full of fishing boats with brown and blue sails and everything was very peaceful. We had nine holes of golf the evening we arrived it wasnt very successful as the grass was long & my opponent kept losing his ball. I think I got more irritated during the 9 holes than I have been for some months battles and all. This rest has out me into splendid health otherwise it has made me disenchanted with the war. When you suddenly get out of its area altogether and see the lovely colours in the trees and brown fields and the cows it occurs how ridiculous it really all is & how more important are the cows etc. So I’m sorry dearie for all my battle enthusiasm unloaded on you enthusiasm for an unworthy cause. Also the inhabitants out of the area of occupation are much nicer and not so mean and niggardly as these one has seen for so long past. Theres a man here from Donegal who appears to be very familiar with all the United Arts Club people. All the half-talented people that you know of.
